Back Ground Information

The following animated stories were created during the 2004 school year by students in the Year 5/6 class as part of their studies integrating Information Communication Technology into the curriculum. The year long project ( 1 hour per week) started in first term with the students writing a creative story.

During terms 2-4 the students were taught the basics of animation for the web using Flash MX. The students firstly drew their characters and backgrounds with pencil and paper using a story board to divide their story into scenes and matched their text with an illustration. The students then scanned and saved the drawings as bitmaps. The bitmaps were then imported into Flash MX and traced using the bitmap tracing tool and converted to vector shapes and graphics. These drawings were then coloured in using Flash MX and animated. Slowly the students brought these animations to life by creating animated scenes to match their stories. Voices and sound effects were created and added using Audacity. Students then learnt about Flash MX Components and Preloaders and compiled their final Flash MX movies and exported them as SWF files so that they can be view over the Internet.

These movies were then inserted into web pages using DreamWeaver MX.The students learnt how to hyperlink pages together and pasted their text to match their animations. Finally after nearly a year of collaborative work students completed these wonderful animated stories that show a beautiful childlike uniqueness. Read Watch and Enjoy :-)
