These student insect animations where made by the Year 5/6 (9-11 year olds) class of 2003 using Flash MX. The Insect study was used to teach the class the basics of animation using this great program. The students first researched insects and then chose an insect of their choice. The students then drew an outline of their insect and scanned them as bitmaps onto the network. Then they imported them into Flash MX and traced them using the trace bitmap function. The students were then explicitly taught the basic functions and concepts of the Flash MX tools. After colouring the insects in Flash MX the students worked on building their animation. By using the lasso tool, scale / rotate functions, tweening and pasting the movements into consecutive frames they were able to create these cute animations. The students were then asked to write and include some interesting facts about their insect. The students then exported their completed animations as shockwave files. Using FrontPage the students then created a html page (webpage) and inserted their animation shockwave files. The students also learnt how to create buttons and an interface to navigate around their completed works.
