INTRODUCTION Have you ever seen an invention and thought, "Hey, I could have invented that!" Maybe you DO have an inventor's mind... it's time to find out. During this term you will be learning about inventions. You will use various books, computer software, and internet resources to support your studies. You will participate in cooperative groups, work independently, produce projects, and read, write, discuss, create, and research. TASK As an Inventor you will have to undertake a series of tasks to research past inventions and inventors and create a Multimedia Flash Presentation to share with the rest of the class. You may choose a topic of interest to research. You will have to use your imagination to come up with new ideas and create a new invention. Process & Resources 1. In partners brainstorm a list of Inventions for each of the following headings Farming, Medical, Electronic, Communications, Industry, Transportation, Science, Warfare, Household. 2. Select 2 inventions from each of these headings and by using Inspiration and researching the Internet create a chart to show who invented the invention and the Year. Print this chart and use it to create a timeline. Example: Light bulb Thomas Edison 1879 3. Select an Invention that you are interested about. Research and find information about The Invention and the Inventor. Place this information in your computer book. Read and highlight important information to use in your project. Use this information to write in your own words a project about your invention. Complete this in your computer book. 4. Multimedia: In class you will learn how to create a Flash Animation Presentation and Dream Weaver to showcase your work on the Internet. 5.Have a look at the following inventions created by children. What do you want to invent? Think about an invention that you want to create and in your computer books draw a detailed diagram. Give this invention a name, describe what it does and how it will improve peoples lives. Write about "why you have created this invention?" "How it works and the materials that would be needed." Type your information into word or FrontPage and either Scan your completed diagram as a JPEG and insert it into a webpage and include your written information OR create a FLASH animation to demonstrate your new invention. 6.
